A quick peek into how we started…..
Jerry – I started using point and shoots in college to document house parties and also family events, but never quite took photography seriously. It wasn’t until a friend bought their own Digital SLR (DSLR) camera that I considered getting one and adopting photography as a hobby. I soon became a committed hermit at the nearest bookstore to my office during lunch hours, pouring over photography magazines and books, while saving money. It wasn’t until 2008 that I finally bought my first DSLR, a Nikon D80, and the hobby stuck. Despite never having taken a single photography class, I’ve taught myself through trial and error, reading and practicing techniques revealed in photography magazines. I’m more of a pickup and shoot kind of photographer – I see what I want to shoot and compose creatively to get the right shot. I’ve never looked back since and continue to be inspired by what is revealed to me through my lens. My family and friends have said that I have a keen eye for photography – I let my work speak for itself.
Rick – It wasn’t until a surprising Christmas present when I started my photography journey. I was watching a TV commercial about cameras and chatting about it with Jerry at home one day. I guess my wife was observing and listening to our conversation on what we saw that new digital cameras could do. A casual conversation between men that apparently became the crux for a new digital camera in my life. A few months later, I opened a gift that my wife had given me and low and behold, A DSLR CAMERA!! A Nikon D40 with 2 kit lenses to be precise! “What in the world” was my initial reaction! She soon explained to me how she was listening to our banter about cameras a few months ago and was sure that I wanted one. Well, thanks to her BIG assumption, I now had one and soon poured over every piece of literature on cameras and photography. Call me the “technical one” for while Jerry tends to pick up and shoot, because he gets inspired by what he sees, I get deep into the settings of the camera to make sure I get the best shot. Besides bonding over my daughter, the new bond that photography has created between Jerry and I has made this journey more special and even more fun.
Over the past 2 years, some of our amazing family, friends, and now clients have requested that we take their photographs! We are blessed and appreciative of the constant belief, support and encouragement that they continue to give and we look forward to capturing precious moments in people’s lives.
